A Sunset to Remember – First-Time Parents Maternity Session on St. Pete Beach
There’s something truly magical about photographing a couple expecting their first child—especially when it all comes together on the beach, with clouds parting just in time for a show-stopping Florida sunset.
This St. Pete Beach maternity session was such a joy to capture. It was their very first maternity shoot, and their first baby on the way, which made the entire hour so meaningful from beginning to end.
When we first arrived at the beach, the sky was overcast and moody—which honestly creates such a soft, dreamy light for photos. I always tell clients not to worry when the sun hides behind clouds because some of the best sessions begin that way. And this one definitely proved that to be true.
As the session went on, the clouds slowly began to break apart—and right near the end, the sky absolutely lit up. Hues of pink, gold, and fiery orange washed across the horizon, making it the perfect ending to a beautiful maternity session.
One of my favorite parts of this shoot was how much her husband got involved. Sometimes maternity photos can feel like a solo spotlight, but I always love encouraging both parents to be part of the session. These two were so connected and sweet with each other—it made every pose feel natural and full of love.
From gentle bump cradles to sweet, forehead-to-forehead moments, they created memories that they’ll be able to show their little one someday—and that makes what I do so special.
During this hour-long shoot, we had time for an outfit change, which gave the gallery two totally different vibes. I always recommend this for maternity sessions if time allows—it gives you variety and makes the final gallery even more dynamic.
From barefoot-in-the-sand romance to a more dressed-up look with the waves behind them, we used the full beauty of the St. Pete shoreline as our backdrop.
