Sunset Surprise: A Dreamy St. Pete Beach Proposal After 4 Years of Love
There’s something special about a proposal that feels both planned and completely unexpected—and Tyler pulled it off perfectly during this golden hour session on St. Pete Beach.
As a St. Pete Beach engagement photographer, I get to witness a lot of once-in-a-lifetime moments, and this one checked all the boxes: a loving couple, a stunning beachfront garden, and a glowing Florida sunset that looked like it was painted just for them.
A “Regular” Couple’s Photoshoot
Tyler and his girlfriend had been together for just over four years, and while she had a feeling the big question was coming soon, she didn’t know exactly when. That’s what made this moment so special—it was hidden inside something familiar.
They had previously done some couples shoots in the past, so scheduling another couple’s session didn’t raise any red flags. What she didn’t know was that Tyler and I had already hopped on a call to plan every detail—and I assisted in picking the exact spot on the beach where the magic would happen.
Lives Changed Forever
As the session began, everything was business as usual. I guided them into natural poses, made some jokes, and kept things light. Then, I cued them into a back-to-back pose—one of my favorite ways to sneak in a surprise proposal.
With the Gulf breeze gently blowing and soft pinks and oranges painting the sky, I said, “Okay, now turn around.” She spun to face Tyler—and he was already down on one knee. Her reaction? Total disbelief, happy tears, and one giant “YES.”
This spot is one of my personal favorite proposal locations in St. Pete. It’s tucked along the beach where a small garden meets the sand—a hidden gem that recently showed incredible resilience. After a recent hurricane, the area had already begun to rebuild, and on this evening, it looked more beautiful than ever. Fresh blooms, warm light, and peaceful waves made it feel like a secret paradise

Once the ring was officially on her finger, we had time for a full golden hour engagement session—and let me tell you, they were glowing. We captured so many authentic, joy-filled moments as they soaked in the excitement of being newly engaged.
From soft, romantic poses with toes in the sand to laughter-filled candid shots in the garden paths, their energy and connection made every frame feel effortless. It was one of those nights where time slowed down and everything just clicked.
